Orchard Valley Harvest Nuts

Orchard Valley Harvest Nuts come in a variety of mixtures formulated to be both healthy and delicious. They're all non-GMO certified, and don't contain any artificial ingredients or preservatives. The one- and two-ounce individual serving size pouches are perfect for active lifestyles and they're easy to take along to school, work, and on road trips. Orchard Valley Harvest offers a good selection of fruit and nut mixes, and some of the mixes available to us locally include the Omega-3 Mix, Heart Healthy Blend, and Antioxidant Mix.

Orchard Valley nut mixes:

We discovered Orchard Valley Harvest nuts while researching ways to add more Omega-3 fatty acids to our diet. We've always liked nuts (well, not peanuts so much), and the Orchard Valley Omega-3 mix was the first product we tried.

Omega-3 Mix: The Omega-3 Mix (Amazon) includes walnuts, dried sweetened cranberries, almonds and pistachios. There's just enough sea salt to balance the sweetness of the cranberries, and the sea salt only adds 15 mg of sodium per one-ounce serving. The big plus is the ALA (alpha linolenic acid) that's a natural part of the walnuts. Each one-ounce serving of the Omega-3 Mix contains 880 mg of ALA which is 55% of the recommended 1.6 grams for men and 84% of the recommended 1.1 grams for women. More info on Omega-3 fatty acids from nih.gov.

Heart Healthy Blend: After the Omega-3 mix, the next nut mix we tried was the Heart Healthy Blend. It contains almonds, dried sweetened cranberries, walnuts and chickpeas. The Heart Healthy Blend has some sea salt, which adds 45 mg. of sodium per one-ounce serving. It's the only nut mix of the three that contains a legume (chickpeas). In addition to 3 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein, the Heart Healthy Blend also contains 4% calcium, 4% iron, 15% Vitamin E, and 10% copper. The walnuts add some ALA, but not as much as the Omega-3 mix

Antioxidant Mix: The last nut mix we've tried (so far) is the Antioxidant Mix which contains almonds, dried sweetened cranberries, blueberries, cashews, and pepitas. The dried blueberries in this mix are delicious. There's no salt in the Antioxidant Mix, and it's nice that Orchard Valley offers a sodium-free option. If we want to add some salt, we usually add a small amount of lightly salted sunflower seeds to the package. The Antioxidant mix has the most vitamins and minerals of the three mixes. It's also the only one of the three to contain manganese (25%) and magnesium (15%), two important minerals that offer quite a few health benefits according to the NIH. More info about magnesium from nih.gov.

Orchard Valley Nutrition Info:

The Orchard Valley Harvest website only shows the front of the packages, so there's no nutritional information for the individual packages. Currently, both Walmart and Amazon have the nutritional info on their detail pages, but we'll include it here as well. We prefer the one-ounce serving size, so all the nutrition info is based on a one-ounce serving.

Orchard Valley Potassium Nutrition:

The one-ounce size doesn't have any potassium info listed on the package - it's only listed on the two-ounce size. As it's the same nut mix, it stands to reason that the one-ounce size contains half of the potassium of the two-ounce size. The image below show the potassium nutrition info for the Heart Healthy Blend, but all three nut mixes appear to contain between 105 to 120 mg. of potassium per one-ounce serving.

Where to Buy Orchard Valley Nuts:

You can't buy the nuts from the Orchard Valley website (unless you buy an entire case), but they have a page that lists the various retail locations across the country. Walmart carries a good variety, but not all the mixes are available online. Amazon also carries a good selection of both the nut mixes and chocolate covered fruits. Both those links are for the Cranberry Almond Cashew Trail Mix so you can compare prices and availability.
